In American culture, rap is always tied to New York. It was the birthplace of rap, but lost its throne to Southern music.
However, in the 1980s, the city rose to its former glory with hip hop as many famous rappers from New York, including Kurtis Blow, Slick Rick, Run D.M.C., Rakim, LL Cool J, KRS-One, along with numerous others, emerged from the city and ruled the world of rap with their unique touch and style.
The 2000s is a new era for New York rappers as several top New York rappers are creating a thriving scene that will soon put the city back on top of the rap game.
Although iconic New York rappers such as Jadakiss, Fabolous, Nas, 50 Cent, and Styles P are still very much present, there are now dozens of new rappers with the potential to reignite the New York rap landscape.
We will feature a wide range of artists today, from New York drill artists to mainstream rap artists making their mark on the world of music.
